Urban cultural topography has changed completely in the last few years. Contemporary art is no longer confined to galleries or museums – it crosses over to city squares, abandoned parking lots, draw bridges and roofs of historical buildings.
Art integrated into urban environment is uniquely important for a city in terms of how it helps to improve the city's image and create a positive reputation. It helps to draw investors, developers and tourists.
The appeal of the project will extend beyond the residents of the district – we expect to draw the attention of cosmopolitan artists and businesspeople, who, although they follow the international trends in living and working styles, in art, fashion, and music, and aspire to the same standards of living as native Londoners or New Yorkers have come to expect, are not averse to art and are open to the implementation of progressive and innovative ideas in their own city.
Under the direction of famous foreign artists, teams of Russian graffiti artists will paint several walls of the buildings in the North-Western Administrative District of Moscow. The artists provide designs, and the graffiti artists transfer them onto walls – there can be no better example of cooperation and cosmopolitanism. A sharp contrast of gray walls and bright colors – the history and the future – will draw attention and spark discussion. When a common structural element of a building is turned into an art object, the result always looks fresh. It’s a break from the stereotype.
